One of my highest safety concerns when I bought my Lancair 360. MkII, 4 years ago, was the possibility of taking off with the canopy unlatched.

Mine would "stick" down and look latched when it wasn't at all.

When I rebuilt my instrument panel, all glass, things were pretty torn up and I took advantage of the openness to install a micro sw, like on the gear, from Lancair back at the transverse rod that rotates to close the canopy dogs.

The 1/2" red light is above the pilots EFIS, and will not go out until the handle is over-center LATCHED.   The light cannot be missed on takeoff roll.

In hind sight, I don't know why I waited so long.  I thought the switching would be tricky.  It was, and is, not at all.  If you uncover the transverse activation tube/rod, you will see a direct mount for the switch on the fiberglass and a "trigger" already a part of the rod.

(I also included warning lights for pitot heat failed, voltage regulator/alternator failed, Dynon EMS items out of limits, battery left on at shut down, and gear not extended warning.   Three reds above EFIS and 2 amber at CB panel on right.)

Lights are only 5 bucks at Spruce (gear warn horn also takes a reed switch from Lancair) and are all off a new CB; but just a life saving canopy light could be tapped off of any appropriate CB and a 1 amp fuse installed in series.

My pics are too big for LML, so email me if you want pic of switch install.
