For all those who believed the media report about Riggs "skimming the water with his wheels"
I was in China and witnessed the accident. I was not a participant in the airshow and went to see friends and world champion aerobatic guys from Germany, etc.  I just returned today. Here are the facts as I personally viewed them. There was a two ship formation that took off on RWY 22 to do some low practice formation passes in preparation for the airshow. Both planes had wheels up, I repeat, both planes had wheels up by the time they reached the departure end of the runway (airport altitude is about 200 feet runway length about 3,000 weather condition about 1,000-1,500 foot ceiling, periodic moisture the entire day)  both planes in a loose formation made a right turn to begin down wind. There is a lake about 300 yards west of the runway that parallels the runway. The lake extends past the approach end by about a mile/half mile. At approximately the approach end, both planes began another right turn except Riggs plane departed the formation and went into the water. There was no skimming, no heavy acro, or anything like that.  So before you guys pass judgement, I suggest you know all the facts.  I am really ashamed of some of the lancair community and their responses to this tragedy. Two people were killed.
