Jack, is that a Legacy? In my airplane, the autopilot could not be mounted on the upper panel
where you have it, because with the panel moved forward (for knee clearance), the autopilot interfered with the canopy hinge.

All, Another idea….. I screwed a fiberglass plate (from the panel cut out) on each side of the 900 rack. Each plate was slotted to slide
onto the horizontal firewall stiffener on the firewall. The only connections to the upper panel are pitot/static and several
electrical plugs. The "side plate" idea allows relatively easy removal of the upper panel. In my IV, the only fasteners are two #10's on each
lower corner. The panel rests atop the center console and is pinned to the center console. Removing the two #10's and and lifting the panel
enough to disengage the pins allows the panel to be removed as the "side plates" slide free from the firewall stiffener. This also avoids
any braces blocking access from below. Sorry I don't have a better pic. You can see the "side plates" in the lower right of this pic.
The wiring is a work in progress here so is obviously not buttoned up. I added the joggle per Lancair practice at the time of construction.
The joggle is stabilized by the top dust shield which is held in place with velcro. There is no discernible movement in the rough air I have
encountered so far. <100_0681s.JPG>-- For archives and unsub http://mail.lancaironline.net:81/lists/lml/List.html
