Gee, I wish I understood the NTSB database...... (http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/index.aspx)  a search with the parameters: 1/1/2012 to 6/9/2012, US, fatal, accidents, amateur built, airplanes results in 20 with 3 Lancairs or 15% of fatal accidents in the database.  Uh, two were IVs, a turbo prop and a propjet (the same?), and a 235.  This is like saying a Piper Malibu and an Arrow are in the same category, i. e. Piper.

 

We won't know what the fleet sizes are until the FAA gets through with the re-registration process.  Those are the current unknown unknowns. Then there are those hidden, unreported aircraft flying in and about the remote weeds here in the US of A.  Those are the future unknown unknowns. 

 

Well, I wonder what the other 12 ABs were in the "dashboard" ...................

FYI... Be careful out there. Lancairs have had three fatal accidents  out of 32 amateur built fatals this year. Not good, 9.3 per cent of the fatals for about  six percent of the fleet. This is the norm for our fleet.

Good morning everyone.  Attached is the latest EAA dashboard reflecting the current status of fatal accidents involving experimental aircraft in relationship to the projected/forecast fatal accident not to exceed trend as noted in FAA 2009-2013 Flight Plan. 

 

The report reflects an increase of one fatal accident since the last Dashboard (6/4/2012), and that accident was:

 

·         Tuesday, 6/5/2012, experimental light-sport aircraft (converted “fat-ultralight”), N4396H, Manchester, IA, one on board.

 

We have expanded the distribution list to include the EAA Homebuilders Council and the new Type Club Safety Coalition.
