Berni,
The fuel distribution spider has a shutoff valve built in to positively shut down the flow when the fuel pressure drops far enough.
(as during shutdown).  Was the spider overhauled with the servo?  Maybe take a look at that valve to check that it has enough spring force and is not sticking at high temps.
What do you see for CHT's and oil temp  when you are having this surging?
Does ambient temperature change the problem?
 
On normally aspirated engines, surging is most commonly caused by induction air leaks.

Many of you guys have offered suggestions to help me remedy my ongoing engine surge challenge.  As a reminder...my fuel injected IO360 displays a very pronounced surge during idle and taxi following a flight and brief shutdown/restart.  The problem never occurs when the engine iis cool.
