Hi Rob,

We have the torque tube latch kit from Lancair installed in our 320. It was fairly straightforward to install (done during construction) and is easy to operate. It has the advantages that you mention, the most important to me was the ability to open and close the latch from the outside and be able to lock it. We’ve been operating with this system for over 2,000 hrs and have found it to be dependable, secure and trouble free. I recommend it.

Subject: [LML] L360 canopy latch

Another query for those who have gone before.

I will soon be constructing the canopy for my L360 and am wondering what sort of latching mechanism I will need. I have the original latches which came with the kit, but have noticed other Lancairs with latches which are operable from both inside and outside the aircraft. It seems to me that from a safety point of view, having access from outside in the event of an accident could be very handy. I am aware of the kit which is available with the central operating handle and torque tube, but it looks rather complex and probably relatively heavy.

I am interested in comments from those of you who have completed your aircraft, about what latches you installed, and what you like or dislike about them.
