Yep, 5 years of listening to "put a hole in the filter and let it drain out".   I probably never let it sit long enough and stopped using that method.  But, I now am a believer.   My procedure is fly, then remove cowls (10 minutes) pop the cap from the quick drain (see photo, Spruce part), screw on the tube adapter and drain into a bucket (5 minutes), punch a hole in the filter with a center punch (1 minute) and take an oil sample.   I leave the whole thing draining overnight.

The next morning I put the cap on the quick drain (no lock wire is needed), change the filter (not a drop comes out), add some DC-4 and torque the filter to 16ft-lb with torque wrench, lockwire the filter, add 8 qts, do a leak check, replace cowls and send the oil sample out.

I know 99% of owners already figured this out but for the rest of you this is the way to go.  Oil changes are easy now and clean.  I use A/S 100W Plus or 100W depending on where I am (80W up north in winter) and I change every 25 hours.   Paul
