Yep, 5 years of listening to "put a hole in the filter and let it drain out". I probably never let it sit long enough and stopped using that method. But, I now am a believer. My procedure is fly, then remove cowls (10 minutes) pop the cap from the quick drain (see photo, Spruce part), screw on the tube adapter and drain into a bucket (5 minutes), punch a hole in the filter with a center punch (1 minute) and take an oil sample. I leave the whole thing draining overnight.
The next morning I put the cap on the quick drain (no lock wire is needed), change the filter (not a drop comes out), add some DC-4 and torque the filter to 16ft-lb with torque wrench, lockwire the filter, add 8 qts, do a leak check, replace cowls and send the oil sample out.
I know 99% of owners already figured this out but for the rest of you this is the way to go. Oil changes are easy now and clean. I use A/S 100W Plus or 100W depending on where I am (80W up north in winter) and I change every 25 hours. Paul
