I have a G900X, a close sibling to a G1000, in my ES-P. I was looking over the Garmin support boards and found the Q/A below. I can only imagine how PO'd I would be if it were me; it amazes me that the software version would be part of a type certificate.

Question: Can I get Safetaxi on my G1000 in my Tiger?

Answer:

Unfortunately Safetaxi will not be available for the G1000 installation in the Tiger aircraft. The G1000 system was installed under Tiger's Type Certificate approval and not by a Garmin STC. There is a GDU1040 software update required to support the Safetaxi feature.

Since Tiger is no longer in business, there is no way to update the TC for your aircraft to update the G1000 software to support Safetaxi and other future enhancements.
