Dave:  As it happens I have retired after more years in the engineering field than I care to think about so I do have some small understanding of mechanical systems however that is beside the question.

Every major indeavor that has required a power source has developed a reliable and economical device to produce that power except the aviation field.

Did you recently say something about Continental oil rings?

The obvious reason that auto conversions or other power sources have not been pursued is the fact that while there is a procedure with the FAA wherein you can install a small block Chevy in a Cessna but it immediately becomes Experimental and can no longer be used to generate income.

The Experimental Movement is making huge progress in this field and since there are several experimentals produced every year for each spam can single produced Lycoming and Continental will quickly feel the heat.

I know Falconer and he has recently finished an 8 cylinder engine for a friend of mine at a cost of $45,000.00 less PSRV.

ON a dyno this engine produces about the same power that the race boys are getting from a Modified Corvette engine.  Endurance and reliability remain to be seen.  The race guys beat them on the back hard for 24 hours at Daytona and they keep on ticking.
