The Headsets Inc website does not include the EM-1 set discussed in the
last LML. It only lists the insert kit.
I have been flying with HI inserts for two years. They work very well,
but have two problems. First, the wire for power breaks easily and
often, requiring repair. Second, the battery box only holds one battery.
I went to Radio Shack and got materials to build up a two battery box
with an A/B switch. When power dies, I just flip the switch. And the set
dies in an odd way. It tends to become boomy before complete shutdown,
after which it becomes simply a good passive headset.

[You might want to drop them an email and ask that they send you their
EM-1 brochure. It's only a one-pager, nothing really fancy but they did
have them at S'n'F so I know they're available. BTW, they now have a
hard-wire option so you can plug the headsets in without a battery box
of any kind... certainly easier than swapping batteries or losing your
ANR at the least opportune moment. That's shown on their EM-1 brochure
as well.
