As an answer to Claudio, I seem to remember that the assembly of the two
bearings is best done with the a bolt through the two bearings to keep them
in alignment and a very careful drilling of the rivet holes. I agree that
the holes are too large to ensure a tight fit but the thing here is to
ensure that as far possible you have the bearing housings centered before
you start the drilling for the rivets. This can be done by eye. The
important thing is that the bearings align with each other. Needle nose
vice grips with vinyl tape on the jaws to prevent marring are perfect for
holding things in line. Pull the rivets down evenly, using the "equal and
opposite" technique, just as if you were tightening a flange. Remember you
are not building a chronometer, more like a grand father clock.
