I have to agree with Charlie Kohler. There is such a thing as too much soundproofing. I'm doing under my rudder pedal subfloors with the aluminum backed peel-and-stick foam (ADC 600? Formerly APLSA-40) and fiberglass batting. I don't plan to do anything else.
I've chosen this route based on riding in Orin Riddell's LNC2, which was very quiet (as airplanes go) and had no soundproofing at all according to Orin's. I know I could see the bare firewall from the inside of the cockpit. I don't know how much muffling his turbocharger provides, though. Don Goetz tells me that soundproofing this area (under the subfloor) helps reduce the engine noise. If Don says so, that's good enough for me. Anyways, I can add soundproofing elsewhere later if I want, except under the floorboards which will be permanently sealed. I'm sealing this area per the factory manual, but against Martell Lindsay's recommendations. Marty says he removes his floorboards occasionally for maintenance of all the stuff he's got under there, which includes strobe light power sources (if memory serves). Marty has a good point here. I'll be stuck shoving cables and brake lines thru those little conduits. I suspect I may reach a point where I kick myself for not listening to him on this one. I mention this for the rest of you, who will make your own choices. It's a good idea, but one which I'm choosing not to follow.
By the way, I have LightSpeed 20K's, and they're fabulous.
