MKII (( SUCCESSFUL FIRST FLIGHT )) - St. Patrick's Day 2008
Posted for Matt Reeves <mattreeves@yahoo.com>:
Hello everyone!
I waited 13 years to send this message. Today, my Lancair 320 MKII slow
build ripped itself off the face of the Earth for the 1st time!!! It didn't
tippy-toe, it SCREAMED!!!
I would like to thank everyone on the list and especially Bill Rumburg for
his help, ideas, and support!! And Marv for running such a good list and to
Bill and Sue and Randy Snarr, and VERN!!! and many many others.
It was a beautiful blue sky day and the temp was 30F with no wind. What an
exciting adventure to fly something you built. I remembered all those parts
and thought, how cool this really works and not just works - WORKS AWESOME!
I will write a detailed rundown when the adrenalin stops but it was perfect
takeoff, perfect flight, I did not retract the gear on the first flight, and
perfect landing. I flew for about 1/2 hour, tested controls, slow flight,
and trim - basically AC90-89A to the T.
I still cannot believe it happened and am very excited.
I would say it was the best day of my life!
Here are some pictures and here's a youtube link so you can watch it
yourself. You will notice that after I took off, I turned left because
there are many open fields to the left and many houses straight ahead and a
huge quarry to the right so I thought fields might be softer than rocks!!!

Remember: it's still in white primer and has no interior but hey, who needs
that?
