Have you thought about bonding the parts just before squeezing the rivets?
Epoxy would be too hard and unbending.  RTV worked real well on my son's
Cessna nose bowl and cowl fitting together before bucking the rivs.  The
results so dramatically improved we were able to leave out the angle
stiffener under the top cowling....didn't need it because the RTV spread
loads so widely.  The RTV also seems to act like a shock absorber.

Boeing uses a bonding agent now, on the wing spars when they are built.
The results.... spreads the loads over a wider area than just rivs and
bolts.  Don't know what Boeing uses for bonding.
