Consider a torque tube mounted laterally on front of the firewall.  This
would allow two outboard throttles if desired.  Remove the friction lock
from the right side.  This way, only the left would control friction.  Just
be watchful the co-pilot's is not used as "a convenient place to hang her
purse".

No self respecting fighter pilot would ever sit on the right side.  <G>
