I agree with Dan with one important difference. Why use Al material?
Graphite hinges (Carbinge hinges) are much better. You don't have to rivet
them in because you can bond them to your composite cowling, they are
lighter, they last longer. They install easier, they don't leave aluminum
oxide black streaks on your cowling when the aluminum begins to corrode,
they don't show the little divots in the paint job where the rivets were
placed. Understand I'm biased because I manufacture and sell Carbinge, but
ask some of the many Lancair builders/fliers who have used them and flown
with them for several years.
