In a response to Charles Keller's question about how I managed to fit the
batteries and hydraulic power pack up front along with the header tank I
mentioned my battery choice, that being Hawker Energy Products Odyssey
Model PC680.  In case you're wondering about just what the heck they are, I
thought I'd pass along the link to their website... it's
http://www.hepi.com/products/sli/index.htm and I suggest you take a peek if
you're still unsure about battery alternatives.  These are _not_ gel cell
batteries, but utilize the absorbed glass mat technology for the
electrolyte (ie, cut them in half and no acid would be released.)  They
charge quickly, much like a ni-cad, are capable of very high discharge
rates (low internal resistance), but will provide good low rate long
duration drains as well... sort of the best of both worlds.  They are also
reasonably priced and relatively small.  I hope you find this information
useful.
