I just finished updating the LML homepage, have uploaded a couple new JPG
files (one of hydraulic manifolds, one of LNC2 cowl flaps, thanks to Skip
VN  and Jerry G respectively).  I've also gotten caught up with the weekly
textfile archives and the ZIPfiles as well, so everything is there up to
this past Saturday night.

I still intend to publish a CDROM with all of the messages neatly indexed
and easily searchable, but it's become quite the task, one that's taking
much longer than I'd anticipated.  One of these days, though...

In the meantime, I thought it would be appropriate to share a little tidbit
of information you might enjoy, especially those of you who like to search
the archives for memory refreshers about a given topic.  Most search
engines that are built into text management software (ie, the "find" button
in most "edit" menus) are only able to look into the present document...
with 60 weekly text archives, going through them one at a time is a
complete PITA, I know, I've tried.  I've located an interesting piece of
shareware, however, called Nico's Commander, which has the capability of
doing specific text searches across a range of files, and it uses the
familiar Windows Explorer interface to do the job.  Files to be searched
are highlighted in the left window, and the results are reported in the
right.... double-clicking a result file opens it up with your default text
editor and a secondary search within the file (using the "find" function)
zeros you right in on the text.  It's relatively easy to jump from file to
file and locate every instance of your search term.  It's not as nice as
Wilma or Glimpse (PERL engines used on searchable web archives) but it
_does_ work and can provide access to that hard-to-find bit of information
you know you read here but haven't a clue as to when.

Needless to say, using this software will require that you download all the
textfile archives (presently about 4MB of data) and store them in a folder
somewhere on your hard drive.  The ZIPfiles are provided to make this a
less time consuming task, as all the info is ZIPped up in them and they
total only about 1.4MB.  I will probably be removing the individual
textfiles from the LML homepage, as they are consuming way too much space,
and are more appropriate for home use anyway.  (Let me know what you think
about that?)

I've provided a link to Nico's Commander in the Attachment area as well.  I
hope you find the program useful, or if you know of a better way to get the
job done I'd be happy to hear all about it and make that info available
here instead.
