After having suffered thru 9 months of tracking down a hydraulic failure,
only to find it was the cheap under-sized ball valve used as an emergency
dump valve, I brought the deficient part to the Lancair tent at Sun 'n Fun
and spoke to Orrin.  I explained to him that I expected Lancair to recall
the part, and replace it with a valve rated for the pressures it must
sustain.  (The hydraulic line produces 1200psi pressures which go into the
valve rated at only 600psi).  He said he would look into the problem, and
perhaps issue a service bulletin on the valve.  So that this issue doesn't disappear under some anonymous mound of
paperwork, it would be quite helpful if all builders, interested in having
the part replaced, e-mail a little note to Orrin, from the Lancair home
page.  I'm sure Lancair would be eager to identify such a blatant problem,
and rectify it immediately...at their expense.  Feedback from the building
community is essential to making our planes the safest and most reliable in
the kit industry.
