The tie down assembly you have sounds the same as mine. My kit is about
three years old and has the threaded removable tie down rings. They are
kind of clunky and I think I'd rather have the release pins if I had a
choice. I think the threaded ones are older and the others are a newer
iteration but I'm not sure.
The manual calls for drilling several 3/16" holes in the bracket (mine were
already drilled and it sounds like yours are too) then Hysoling the bracket
to the fwd face of the spar. No bolts are called for. Cover with a 2"
overlap of 4BID. Details are in Chapter 6 page 6-68 and 69. Revision # is
1/10-26-91.
I actually put my wing tie downs outboard of BL 165 so that I wouldn't have
to worry about leakage problems in the tanks. One of the Lancair tech reps
told me this would be OK. The only drawback is that now I want to install
taxi lights and the tie down brackets are going to make it difficult to find
enough real estate forward of the spar.
