My kit is about three years old and has the threaded removable tie down rings. They are kind of clunky and I think I'd rather have the release pins if I had a choice. I think the threaded ones are older and the others are a newer iteration but I'm not sure. The manual calls for drilling several 3/16" holes in the bracket (mine were already drilled and it sounds like yours are too) then Hysoling the bracket to the fwd face of the spar. No bolts are called for. Cover with a 2" overlap of 4BID. Details are in Chapter 6 page 6-68 and 69. Revision # is 1/10-26-91. I actually put my wing tie downs outboard of BL 165 so that I wouldn't have to worry about leakage problems in the tanks. One of the Lancair tech reps told me this would be OK. The only drawback is that now I want to install taxi lights and the tie down brackets are going to make it difficult to find enough real estate forward of the spar.
