I'm now convinced (after about half a dozen such engine outs) that the constant velocity Mikuni carbs ARE susceptible to icing.

        All carbs are susceptible to icing. CV carbs are just less susceptible. As long as there is a Venturi there will be reduced pressure (with a concomitant reduced temperature) and thus the possibility of icing.

        EFI sounds like a wise choice.
