Really sad news about Mike...

 

I was on an AWACS trip to San Diego in 2009 and called Mike up to see if I could see his project while out that way.  I dragged another crew member along and we both met Mike at a restaurant; grabbed a bite to eat, and then drove a few miles down the road to his hanger.  He showed us his RV-4, his old RV-6A (that he sold to a buddy), and his glider. 

 

Without any persuasion he hauled his 4 outside and fired it up!  It ran pretty good (albeit very loud) and the prop blast made the cool night air pretty chilly!  At one point he demonstrated how it would cut out when he went above the staging point (I believe) which was the last big hurdle he wanted to sort out before flying it for the first time.  

 

My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones in this very difficult time...
