Well, then you should get the newest of the new - emissions and all!!

Thomas,
Many of the German cars are now meeting high emission control levels. They were late to the table emissions wise but have hit it with a vengence. I heard that in the Ruhr valley that they were forcing alternate day use the smog was so bad. (even plates on even days, odd plates, odd days) I don't know about current levels. The Audis were first to use the Siemens system, they are a bit more adventurous than Merc. I believe D-B is developing their own system in cooperation with Bosch. The Siemens injectors are piezo driven and have a phenomonal response time. They also can run with lower lubricity gasoline. I believe several Japanese cars also use the system under license. The thing is you need the injectors, the pump, (a new lightweight pump BTW), the plumbing and a control signal. I think Tracys unit will be able to drive these injectors! For emissons the profiles are very carefully developed. We won't need anything near that close, not needing to meet those standards.

Just stumbled across this site; Is this the pump for the Siemens injection?

Charlie

This pump looks like the last pump Bosch used before going common rail, which was some years ago.
On commom rail system, we have to keep in mind the fact of very high fuel pressure, up to 21000psi !!.
This is the pressure in the fuel rail, very high, compared to up 3000psi injection pressure on mechanical diesel pump.
There is certainly not much room for experimenting, i would think.
FWIW.
