Thomas, it was top speed.  He said the prop stipping had a little more gain than the wing stripping and he felt that the prop could have been cleaned up some to maybe accomplish the same thing.  The Tailwind guys are starting to go with Craig Cato Props now because they feel he is closer to the black art of prop carving than others.  One of the Tailwind fellows is an engineer for Whirlwind props and has one on his Tailwind W-10 , 0320,160, MP 22, rpm 2700, speed 207, so if you fellows that are still working would like an adjustable pitch prop that weighs 30 lbs, I believe the price for unit, governor and control is around $8500.00.  You can check this on the internet.  JohnD

7mph more topspeed or less stallspeed?

Thomas, a few years back, dimple tape was promoted to work like the vortex generators, being added to the main wing  and also on props and canards.  There was an article in Sport Aviation on it, but I don't recall when.  One of the fellows here tried 1/8" pinstripping tape, 2 each placed 1/8" apart on the wings and prop spanwise of a Thorpe T-18 and he claimed is was good for 7 mph.  You need to cover with paint or polyurethane to keep it in place.  JohnD

Where would you use "Dimple Tape"?

Dave, you can always add dimple tape.  One of the Tailwind guys said his plane was $240.00 lighter, no faster though.  JohnD
