Hi Ed,
thank you for that explanation of the Swiss muffler; I had mental ramblings of a multi-holed can resembling a swiss cheese.
You will be pleased to learn that Leon P is back on the net, I had an email from him yesterday. Leon has been 'silent' for some months after he shifted shop and had difficulties getting a landline telephone circuit. Even now he can only get dial up connection. We will hear from him soon on this letter, no doubt., as I believe, he has been active in the skunk works.

Basically, the Swiss muffler is attributed to the tough noise abatement rules of the Swiss government for aircraft - including small GA and experimental.  Tony Bingelis who wrote a column of "How to" for Sport Aviation for years included it in one of his books "FireWall Forward"-Page 112.
