Joe, the heat shield looks good. You should protect the engine rubber mount also. It can melt from radiant het.

Al,

Attached are some Pics of the heat shield and a bad shot of the bracing. My intent was to take some pictures today – I took the cowls off gave every thing are real good inspection and totally forgot to take a picture of the bracing before I put the lower cowl on. So, I stuck the camera in there and snapped a shot anyway.

NewHeatShield pic – it’s stainless .030 thick. The front side that faces the fuel pumps is sealed off and the back side that faces the camera is open so that air can flow in from underneath and out the back of the cowl.

NewExhaustSupport pic – the ¾”x¾”x1/8” angle steel that comes down ( right of center in the picture ) has two bolts holding it in the engine mount holes between the two exhaust ports. From that vertical angle are bolted two angles that go forward (away in the picture) and to the left. These horizontal members are to under the exhaust pipe as it goes under the engine and turns left to exit out the back. The exhaust pipe is clamped to these angles with standard U-Bracket exhaust clamps (avail. from NAPA).

>>Tangential Muffler

It sounds like your design has a lot more in it for performance than mine did.  I based mine on Dave Atkins’ muffler – so it was the basic tangential can with lots of right angles and only pressure would get the exhaust gases out.
