Ernest,
RV10. Skinny front tapered to the firewall. The sides are lower pressure
than the nose on a conventional cowl. In this arrangement I think NACA's
may work well.

This would eliminate the scoop under the nose. I believe one of the ducts could be angled for climb attitude. Visualize the rotary cowl without the scoop using NACA's on the side for cooling.
Bobby, what are you building? The cowl sides are a very low pressure
area on a conventional fuselage. So low in fact that they're often
recommended as the best area for the radiator exits.
