Congrats on
the run Joe.
As for the
preferred number of injectors, I could make as much of a case for 2 as 4.
When you consider that leaking, or sticking open is one of the more common
failure modes, more isn't necessarily merrier. It also doubles the
number of high pressure fuel seals that would like to burn your airplane up
if you give them half a chance.
In Tracy's
system, the staged injectors can be used to eliminate a faulty injector, and run
on just two. If the bad injector is stuck closed, or just being erratic,
that's great, but if it's stuck open, it won't help as much. It may still
help, if you actually use the stuck open injector, and run at high power.
All in all, I really like that feature of Tracy's EC-2, and I have always run
injectors in pairs.
Now, as for
adding more injectors with the MicroTech, will this still work? I know you
can set it up for staged injectors, but can you (easily, in flight, during an
emergency) tell it to disable a pair and make it up with the others?
Maybe you can. I don't know. I've always heard that the
MicroTech was a nice unit, but it's a car ECU, and I'm guessing it isn't
designed with backup features built in.
Cheers,
Rusty (hoping
the S FL boys are OK)
