won't. I think the turbo will tend toward overspeed more with the wastegate
gone. Nothing to slow it down.

OK. You're right. Open wastegate = less exhaust pressure through the
turbine = less
rpm.
However, this wont save him. I think there's still enough exhaust
pressure to overspin the turbine at altitude. If I remember right, my
wastegate was wide open when "she blew".
