Bob,
Almost all "normal" insurance policies are void if the insured acts as an aircrew member of a private aircraft.
Even the AOPA policy is void while flying an uncertificated aircraft. I don't remember whether the military pensions are set up to continue while the spouse lives or not, but I think they do - it might be a matter of election, though.

Folks,
All Carol indicated was no insurance. I took that to mean no Hull insurance. Never wanted to go into personal stuff with a grieving widow. Paul was a retired Army test pilot, so I assumed he had his military ins. All of this is speculation on my behalf, other than her one statement.
Thanks for the concern
Bob

Do you mean No HULL insurance on the aircraft or No LIFE insurance?
