Mazda already has a hydrogen powered rx8 with an electric turbocharger. They had it on their website and Paul Larmar posted pictures of it.
BTW, what happened to Paul Larmar's email list? Is it shut down permanently?

Would it be possible to build an electric turbo that could just be switched
on when needed? Would you need to vary the speed with the throttle or could
it just blow full force? Or would this idea simply take to much horse power
for an electric motor to handle?  Hi Denny,

There are a number of companies selling electric superchargers, but most of
these will require some imagination to see any actual results.  There is one
I've seen, called the eRAM that looks like it could possibly do some good,
however, it also pulls 57 amps !!!!  Eventually, when battery and motor
technology advances a bit, perhaps we'll see a day where these things might
work for us, but I don't think we're quite there yet.   Anyone who saw the movie Mad Max saw the supercharger with an electric
clutch that could be turned on and off.  It's my understanding that was just
something they did for effect in the movie, but I have wondered if it
wouldn't be possible to do something like that with a centrifugal
supercharger and bypass valve.  It's probably not worth the extra weight and
effort though.   Cheers,
Rusty
