As Ed lined out, even  in the States there will probably be few members and
all over the continent.
So the approach to use checklists and Bob's WIKI as a reference is good.

One more step in this direction would be to use single forms to fill out,
with the Associations head and logo to approach insurances. If it is
impossible to have whole teams or even individuals show up to inspect
installations, at least a uniform approach to the insurance will "look"
good.
Lots of miles and time can (and actually is...) saved by the use of cheap
digital cameras. If one pic doesn't show what is asked for a simple email
request for a different angle by an "online inspector" will do!
However if this should work towards the insurance question ("Will I get an
insurance at all?"!!) I believe the organization will have to be built up
according to standards. Thanks to the internet, distance should be not a
major factor - physical visits being a valuable bonus were possible!

Another step towards a fair treatment by the FAA, EAA, NTSB, etc. should be
an "incident/accident report sheet for Rotary installations".
Available by request or suggestion from the Association.
With the official seal of the Association this should be a welcome,
invaluable help for ANY investigation involving a Rotary.
If the report sheet is made up in terms that a Rotary-guy, but not
neccessary aviation-guy can "read" it, select members of typ clubs (as
suggested by Dave ...) could be very objective help for the investigation -
and not generally damaging to the "Fly Rotary" cause. (If the
incident/accident is caused by a faulty Rotary installation, at least it
will be objectivly evaluated). As previously mentioned, that at a similar
accident the local Mazda dealer was consulted, which most likely never sees
an engine from the inside - one might suggest to forgo Mazda dealers for
obvious reasons, unless they are actively involved in racing or engine
buildups AND use the suggested report form.

Most of this will never directly benefit me (but hopefully at least you guys
in the States, Canada and Oz....), but things get easier down here, if one
can show references for how it is done "up north!"

Ok... several things...

1) I am impressed by the response thus far. 25 people have committed to
wanting to belong, help out, subscribe or otherwise be associated with
this forming group. I am flattered by the nomination for presidency, but
at this stage that is premature.

2) I need to clarify some things up front about MY opinions and position
without taking the liberty to impose them upon the will of the group. I
am not advocating us actively participating in Paul Connor's accident.
We are not organized, we have not established any credibility other than
that of a nod among peers (no offense intended to anyone). My earlier
comments about obtaining the salvage were theoretical, as were most of
my other suppositions. To try and throw something together to try and
participate after the fact will (in my OPINION) not benefit Paul's
Memory, the rotary cause nor the aviation community.

Make no mistake. I am motivated to form this group BECAUSE of
Connor's accident. But I would be hesitant to try and form something and
show up a week, a month or who knows how long and try to analyze this
accident after the fact. At the same time, if the group (this will be
group run organization, leaders accountable to members) desires to
pursue intervention, I will not try to roadblock it. Likewise, I am NOT
saying "dont contact Carol or Art", nor to not ask questions. I am just
saying lets be careful that we dont set ourselves up to fail by not
being organized and prepared.

3)   I am working the next several evenings. I will tally up some
information as I get the chance. I will feed it back to the group. The
group will end up making the decision to incorporate, and to establish
leadership.

4) I made outreach to PL before his name came up. It was a critically
worded but constructive (in my opinion) statement that as of yet, has
not been published on his list. I sent it this morning. I have not
recieved a response. I will not exclude him, but on the same token the
likelyhood of any one person "hijacking" the list are minimal.
Leadership positions will be based on popular vote with certain roles to
require practical experience.

5) I will make outreach/contact to several other type clubs or
manufacturers of kits for their input and feedback. If not me
personally, once we organize, designate a lead person to do so.

6) We all have lives and other jobs. We have to accept that one person
cannot do it all. I know I cant. I will also say that I have some
personality traits that sometimes make me less of a politician and more
like PL. Take that to mean what you will. I do not anticipate myself
remaining in a PR role, but rather a technical role (once
estabilished).. a behind the scenes kind of guy. In the interim (for
however long that will be) I will do what needs to be done, as long as I
am able to do it. Lets take care that none of us bite off more than we
can chew.

7) I am not married to any name for the group. Lets just make it short,
simple and easy to say. Pronounceable abbreviation would be a bonus.
