HI Rusty,

I have used the MMO/2 cycle mix in the past but for the last 100 hours I have been using the Wal-Mart Marine 2 cycle oil.  After reading up on the different classifications of 2 cycle oil (most brands are all in one now) and looking at the temperature profiles for the apex seals I concluded that almost anything would do a better job than crankcase oil of lubricating the seals.  And 2 cycle certainly leaves less residue than crankcase oil.

Besides, its cheap and readily available. I have used everything from the Royal Purple brand (almost $5.00 a quart!) to the Wal-Mart brand and just can not tell a difference - other than cost of course.  FWIW

Hi Rusty, Why people think that MMO is solution for everything?

I agree that it sounds like snake oil.  The problem is that it's been around forever, and with excellent results.

2 cycle oil was designed to be used just for our purpose.

To my knowledge, 2-cycle oil was never intended to lubricate apex seals.  I'd be willing to bet that any 2-cycle oil manufacturer would publicly state that their product is NOT for use in rotary engines :-)

I know you’ll make faces when I mention PL

You're right, and for good reason.

Seriously, Tracy has used this stuff for more hours than anyone has used 2-stroke oil.  Heck, I believe Finn uses it too, and he just hit 500 hours.  Can't recall what Ed uses.  The stuff works, and it's impossible to argue with that.

Cheers,
Rusty (waiting for GOOD MRI parts, to take the place of the BAD parts I got today... I love my job...)
