We have tried something like this....keep getting shielding every way we
turn
Best results have been obtained by belly mounting a set of "rabbit ears"...I
know!!!
We have not been able to get IFR signed off with the winglet antenna from
Bob Archer as they want to see 60 miles on the 138 omni from Melbourne at
2000 ft....we were fading out at around 40 and could not keep a signal
during a left or right hand turn....this was with one winglet and then one
winglet joined to an internal antenna we mounted high up in the rear fuse.
Our options are now:
Stay with the belly mount
Remove the VOR, because if it is fitted, they require it to work (we are
also running a Garmin 430, Garmin 420 and KR87)
Not get IFR sign out

WE looked at blades but could not be assured they would solve the problem.
Did not want to go with fin mount "rabbit ears" as this required cuts to the
skin and reinforcing internally whereas we simply removed a belly mount comm
antenna to take the "rabbit ears" on the belly.
