Right! But you sacrifice range when ROP, significantly, and EGT's are higher ROP.
I'll bet your friend couldn't make it on his Mexico-Montana leg without running LOP.
You will only gain 20 Kts by running 75% power ROP, versus 58% power LOP. And you will lose 250 NM range in the process. Its a no-brainer. 22 gph versus 15 gph.
