I constructed my nose gear door per the plans with the addition of some carbon fiber for extra strength.  The nose gear door has been trouble free for over eight years.  The only other change was the addition of a thin .015 thick piece of stainless (from the firewall) to cut down on minor scratching from the nose gear during those times when the nose gear was slightly askew.  The stainless sheet is approx. 2 in wide and runs in an arc on the inside of the door.  As an aside; the door even withstood a direct hit from the nose gear when the shuttle valve on the nose gear failed to shut and let the gear close on the door as they were both retracting.  You can ask Mike Dehate about that one!  That obviously is not supposed to happen!  I tried to guarantee that would never happen again with the addition of a small spring on the shuttle valve shaft.
My 2 cents worth John Poco
