John,
The best solution to short life Dremels is diamond cutters of various
design. They cut carbon like butter and any one of them will last the life
of a building project (5 years and 7000 hours on my scratch built IV-P) if
not abused.
They are available from Engis Corporation: Phone 708-808-9400.
Regarding sanders, Black and Decker makes a vacuum evacuated 5 inch sander
that has lasted through the completion of the aforementioned IV-P and most
of the way through the finishing of a second set of IV-P wings. And
recently I purchased a 10 inch vacuum evacuated sander manufactured by
Porter Cable. It is designed for use in dry wall applications. It does a
very good job of taking the imperfections out of slurried wings. I bought
it from a local building materials wholesaler.
So far as pneumatic sanders are concerned, you might try your local
automotive paint supply wholesaler. I bought 4 and 8 inch DA sanders and an
air file from the one here in Birmingham.
Good luck with the Legacy. I have one scheduled for delivery the end of
May.
Merrill Smith.
