My problem was intermittent in the beginning also and it gradually got worse as time progressed so I was able to fault isolate using the procedures you mentioned. As you said, this does not stop you from flying. You can always shut off your gear breaker when you are on the ground to stop the cycling. Although, it does make one a little uneasy, knowing that everything is not "up to snuff".
