Yikes! Pandemonium, Chaos and the other musketeer, Confusion are rampant, threatening the horizontal stabilizer of aviation.
Where are the builders who are now flyers when you need them? Since you are not sitting in the plane now, please go get your backup copy of the Airworthiness Certificate (you have preserved a copy, haven't you?) and review the Phase I limitations to jog your memory. Notice an innocuous entry that says something like "you may only carry someone essential for the purpose of the flight". Please submit the exact phrase to this website for our joint illumination.
Remember that those of you that used a Lancair Cognoscente, hired him as an independent contractor-consultant to inspect and test fly your airplane, and talk you thru your first bounced landing (essential for the purpose of properly ending a flight). He was not present as an instructor to train you for a rating. You should probably not log any such "essential" assistance as "flight instruction". You are the PIC. If not, what makes you "essential for the purpose of the flight" except for testing the gross weight limits?
My FAA airworthiness inspector, now retired, said "the passenger limitation was to stop you from taking your wife or crazy uncle for a joy ride during phase I ... if you crash, make sure the person in the other seat has a clipboard strapped to their leg." Of course, this was said during 1996, when a friendlier "we are here to help you" FAA was extant. Perhaps the flyers could submit the name, phone number and region of their helpful inspector or DAR to the LML so that we might build a contact list and make it available to our flightless brethren.
Attempting to use safety logic and sanity in our insane society is like tilting a windmill with your Lance-air (no reasonable pun intended).
Cogitation leads to excitation of your expectation of aviation.
