Skip -- who listens to AM anyway?  Seriously, I don't remember if the copper
tape antenna worked for AM.  Possibly not.  I suspect that most auto stereos
you buy are going to have a small loop antenna for AM already built in, but
maybe not.

By the way, anyone have any opinions on whether it's worthwhile spending an
extra grand for a PMA/STC CD player?  You can get a nice auto unit, with
AM/FM thrown in, for around $200 to $300, whereas the aviation types cost
about $1300 and up.  I put a Sony auto unit in my first ES, which worked
very nicely, except that my PS Engineering audio panel seemed to want a
higher aux audio input level than what the Sony put out.  When I questioned
PSE about it, they didn't provide much specific guidance, just said that
some auto units are better than others.  If you're contemplating an auto
stereo, you might want to check compatibility of the audio out from the
stereo and the aux audio in level on your audio panel.  Also, if you're
using a mono audio panel, you have to connect the stereo outputs through a
couple of resistors to mix 'em into one channel.  I personally can't see the
extra bucks for stereo in an acoustic environment as hostile as an airplane
cockpit.

The most annoying thing about the auto units is that their standard width is
somewhere around 3/4" to 1" wider than the standard aviation stack (of
course!).
