Do turn off the headset ANR power and if the am/fm signals cease, you have found the problem. It is not uncommon for a poor solder junction, or non-diode component, to begin acting like a diode, which is what a crystal radio crystal is. When they learned to make them work constantly, they were called "crystal diodes" at the beginning of the solid state era. I suspect that you will have to send the headset back to Bose to have them seek out the part of the headset circuit board that is working as a crystal detector (the detector is the part of every radio that decodes the voice signal off of the radio signal). Any good radio man should be able to trace the signal to its source, but Bose knows their product and can repair or replace the defective part or circuit board without a hassle, which is not true of the average radio shop or hotshot radio amateur like yours truly. Don't take no for an answer, this can be fixed and should be.
