I am replacing many aluminum parts with graphite. On my website, I placed some pictures of the nose gear assembly including the angle bracket and hinges - all graphite. 2. My instrument panel uses graphite inserts instead of aluminum. Use light weight 21/4" backup insts. Use SFS or some other EFIS system that includes most inst needs in just a few lightweight boxes. LED's are lighter than actual bulbs. Use them for indicator lights. 3. Use RG batteries mounted in the engine compartment. The batteries are lighter weight - they function better than wet cell and the engine compartment mounting saves many pounds of #2 wire. 4. The overhead console is available in the graphite. There is considerable weight savings here. 5. You can purchase graphite cowling (not a whole lot of weight savings here becuase of the materials sandwiched in I suppose). I think the greater advantage here is greater stiffness with less distortion during flight. 6. Drill lightning holes or cutouts in all phenolic mounting plates. 7. You already know I use graphite hinges (Carbinge) instead of aluminum hinges. My $.02 on a few areas you can save weight Regards, Regards, John Barrett CARBINGE "The World Hinges On Us" http://www.olympus.net/personal/2thman/carbinge1.htm ----Original Message----- >As far as weight reducing measures, there have been postings about Superfil, >carbon cloth Vs/ glass cloth, various nuts, washers, screws, etc. Some very >interesting suggestions.
