I've just finished my antenna installation for the strikefinder. It's about halfway between the baggage bulkhead and the bulkhead in front of the horizontal stab. It's on the outside (underside) of the plane per recommendation of Lancair Avionics and Insight (maker of strikefinder). There's really no other place to put it due to the ground plane. The Cable pokes up through the fuselage and must bend quite rapidly to not hit the elevator push tube. A two foot diameter aluminum ground plane is required inside the fuselage above the antenna. The cable is big and not very flexible so consider how you'll get it back there. It was tricky getting the aluminum sheet back there (2 feet is bigger than you might think) and more wire routings had to be moved. Also, it nearly interfered with the COM 2 antenna and does sit partially on top of the end of the marker beacon antenna (bid separated of course). I get a little noise from the strobes right now. The Insight guys were helpful and knowlegeable, seems they did quite of bit of work on our airplane setup. They're out of Toronto Canada, about an hour's flight from where I live and offered to help me clean up noise if I fly it over. I got the strikefinder at the time because it was less expensive and came with heading synchronization at no extra charge. Regards, Ed de Chazal
