I have all three tanks filled with Explo-Safe (expanded Aluminum foil) and,
in about 600 hours of flying time in all sorts of conditions ( high and low
temperatures, high and low humidity, nearly empty tanks, etc.), have yet to
experience the mentioned water capturing problem. Not to say it couldn't
happen, of course, but nothing yet.
I used Explo-Safe for several reasons. The primary reason was to reduce the
volume of fuel vapor (the explosive stuff) when tanks weren't full. Not
having any experience with glass tanks, I also wanted a sure-fire (no pun
intended) way to insure that the fuel was grounded during refueling. (This
was accomplished by connecting the Explo-Safe in each tank and the tank's
filler ring to the system ground, which includes the engine, which in turn
is clipped to the external ground during fueling). I'm sure the stuff
reduces fuel sloshing some too, however that's probably not too important as
my tanks have several slosh-baffles, put in before I decided to install the
Explo-Safe.
I'm not down-playing the possibility of the stuff holding water in it's
interstices, I just haven't seen it to date.
