Curtis: Good points. I believe that whenever possible, AC 43.13-1B should be
referenced when building ANY component on ANY aircraft. I will have to research
it to see what it says about securing rod ends. The Glasair doesn't specify
solid rivets, but Ted has almost scared me into building a better pushrod. <G> I
would also follow the directions in the manual for the majority of construction.
You might as well become as expert as possible and read everything you can get
your hands on about aerodynamics, systems and experimental construction. Temper
that knowledge with the NTSB history (which unfortunately are not too detailed;
almost always sound like pilot inability to control aircraft) of the aircraft
and similar types. With all this knowledge you have one final tool in
determining if a change is even worth the extra effort:

I really appreciate the abundance of knowledge and effort that is shown by this
group. It makes it possible to complete a vehicle that is relatively simple
compared to other modes of transportation, yet extremely intolerant of mistakes.
For that reason alone, I have no problem with someone telling me that some idea
I came up with might be a really stupid one. Keep up the constructive
criticism!
