Let me preface this first by saying that I hope you take this with an open mind and realize that I am not trying to flame you or totally disagree. I am one who will follow the kit sellers instructions, because I don't know any better and am not an A&P or an aeronautical engineer. But.....here's where it starts. I have some difficulty with your language in your post. Specifically, you said in your post: >I'm afraid I'm not exactly familiar with all of the discussion regarding > the difficulty of bucking standard solid AD rivets in the pushrod > application but I can understand that it may be quite tempting to use some > other fastener for the job. In the forum I see talk of screws, pop-rivets, > Cherry-Max, etc. I am the person who asked the lists advice as to whether blind rivets might work for this application because I am not accomplished at riveting solid rivets through hollow tubes. you also said: > Certain applications in aircraft require EXACT duplication of the > manufacturer's instructions. You might want to understand that "I am" the manufacture of my aircraft. Lancair may have designed the aircraft...but I am the one who is manufacturing the aircraft. You may also discover as time goes by for you that most of the improvements that you are going to enjoy in the Legacy kit are a direct result of builders NOT following Lancairs instructions and improving the design which Lancair was smart enough to capitalize on. again you said: > If you don't want to follow the standard instructions CALL LANCAIR. Now this kind of language I have a problem with. I have even gotten different directs FROM Lancair support when asking for clarifications of the instructions. A case in point was the aluminum insert on the cockpit closeout rib. Lancair support (name not mentioned, but someone we all know and love) told me to forget the al. insert and replace it with 6 bid of fiberglass to reduce the tendency for the al. insert to vibrate excessively. YOU..may think that it is extremely important to follow the instruction manuals to the letter. You may think that there are no deviations allowed from the instruction manual. But I can tell you this...there are many builders here on this list who may go toe to toe with you on that philosophy. Again...I hope you take this all in good stride....and understand that it's great to have an A&P license, but that doesn't mean you should assert your opinions in such a manner.
