Here is the up to date scoop on the future of TEL from the horse's mouth.
No
mention of price, however. - Fred Moreno
Mr. Moreno,
I received a copy of your recent inquiry about the future of TEL antiknock
products supply and would like to offer the following comments about the
reality of Octel's on-going plans to manufacture and supply TEL.
While it is true that Octel is engaged in strategic business activities
which allow for predicted global decline in demand for TEL products, there
is no set date to cease manufacturing. Quite to the contrary, during the
past year Octel has directed formal communications to people like Brad
Mathoney (in his role with ASTM) and Andy Werking (AOPA), stating our
commitment to supply TEL products (including aviation TEL in United
States)
as long as commercial demand existed.
It is quite apparent to Octel that some organizations have suggested TEL
manufacturing would cease before there was a suitable alternative to
100LL.
We can only speculate that these suggestions have been made in an effort
to
rally support for the complicated task of developing unleaded avgas
alternatives. Octel has chosen to participate in several world-wide
initiatives, in which these same organizations function, to help
communicate
our commitment to supplying TEL products going into the future. We believe
this to be accurate and proper support for efforts aimed at long-term
development of unleaded avgas products.
I welcome your comments and would be happy to discuss this subject in more
depth. You can feel free to contact me directly on this e-mail account or
call my office in the Houston, TX area at 281/364-7464.
