Jim,

Q--:  Can the turbo'ed version of the IO-360 get by with 80/87 or the
forthcoming 82UL?
A-- No,  All TSIO-360 engines require 100LL.  Turbo-normalized engines will make the equivalent power at altitude but the intake air temperature created by the turbocharger reduces detonation margin.
The IO-360-B engine is only 360 certified for use with 80/87.  It is 180 bhp @ 2700 rpm.  It has 6.5:1 compression.

Q-- If so, I would think this would be an attractive alternate engine for the ES.  At altitude with the turbo-normalization, my guess is that the performance numbers would not be far off those for the Super ES with the IO-550.
A--TSIO-360-MB would be the engine of choice.  It is 220 bhp @ 2600 rpm  with a MAP of 38 inHg and a service ceiling of 19,000 ft.
The IO-550-N only makes 220 bhp below 10,000 ft.
The TSIO-360-MB weights 354 lb vs an IO-550-N at 428 lb.

Q--Orrin seems to have a nice turbo 360 setup in his two-seater.  Comments?
A--Yes, but it's the wrong color!

ERic--
