Skip,

I have the VM1000 mounted in the lower left of my ES panel.  All my primary nav instruments are to the right of the display.  I have about 130 hours on my plane and have never thought that I shouldn't have put the display where it is.  I have never had to look around the stick.  Perhaps if I were taller ( I'm 5' 10") and had to sit further back it might be a problem.
